Edinburgh’s Odeon cinemas have announced that they will be opening back up on Wednesday, July 15 with new social distancing measurements in place.

The Odeon has a cinema at Westside Plaza and one at Fort Kinnaird.

To ensure the cinema operates safely, the company has implemented ‘grab and go2 pre packaged food and drink, limited seats on sale and guaranteed unoccupied seats between guests, though family groups will be able to sit together.

There will also be staggered show start times and safe queueing measures, and ‘newly serviced’ air conditioning that will help fresh air circulation in all screens.

The teams will also be frequently cleaning all high contact areas of the cinema and sanitiser stations, gels and wipes will be available.

The cinemas will be showing a mixture of classic movies including Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Sonic the Hedgehog and Onwards, Little Women, Bad Boys for Life, Dirty Dancing and The Greatest Showman as well as Summer movies including Mulan, Tenet, Dreambuilders and Unhinged.

Carol Welch, Managing Director UK & IRE said: “We are excited to confirm that from 4 July, our UK cinemas will begin reopening. We’ve carefully planned every step of our guest journey and put safety measures in place that will enable our highly trained colleagues to provide a controlled and safer cinema experience for all our guests.

There are 88 cinemas across the UK that will be opening between July 4 and 16.
