European video game spend has spiked in the midst of the COVID-19 coronavirus lockdown, new data from the Interactive Software Federation of Europe (ISFE) and Games Sales Data shows (with thanks to analyst Daniel Ahmad).
Compared to it in 2019, the 2020 crash saw a 51% increase in console software spend and a 12% increase year after year. Surprisingly, European consumers spent 17% less on software than last year, before the end.
On the hardware front, console spending had been reduced by 10% in the preblock era (compared to the hardware was in 2019), but soared by 72% just before the crash began. In total, spending on locking devices in 2020 increased by 84% compared to 84% in 2019.
While the crash has had a significant effect on the need for consoles and software, there is no denying that the new content has helped strengthen those numbers. In terms of hardware, Nintendo has released a new Switch on the theme of Animal Crossing New Horizons and on the software side, we have noticed titles like Resident Evil 3, Doom Eternal, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and more.
