This week on music: Facebook is in the game, Taylor Swifties seeks revenge

FACEBOOK IS IN: Facebook has embarked on the music video game. The social media giant has announced that it will now license content from Sony Music, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group to Facebook Watch and through individual artists’ pages. They can be perceived, processed or commented like any other video on Facebook. This resolution is a step forward for Facebook, which in the past could only glimpse a brief percentage of the content of the main tags. The goal is industry-leading YouTube, which is one of the most popular attractions on this site.

TAYLOR SWIFTIES JUSTICE: The word “fan” is short for “fanatic”. Submitted for approval: The reaction of some Taylor Swift enthusiasts this week to a smart review of the album.

Pitchfork editor-in-chief Jillian Mapes gave Swift’s new folklore a review that called it “a sweater weather record full of cinematic love songs and fictional details.”

Pitchfork used the ratings of several staff members to get a top score, and awarded the album and 8 out of 10. Apparently, this wasn’t smart enough for ultra fans, who criticized Mapes by posting their non-public data and using social media to pay for jihad. Swift hasn’t commented on the stock yet, perhaps because she celebrates the album’s crushing sales, which surpassed $2 million in the first week.

JAPAN IS GOING MUSERK: Music and video rights management firm Muserk has partnered with Video Research of Japan to launch MUSERK V.I.D. The joint venture will service, manage and protect the online rights of the major broadcasters, networks, and production companies of Japan around the world. Japan is the second-largest music market in the world and third-largest YouTube market in the world. Muserk was founded by CEO Paul Goldman and currently manages rights and monetizing content in over 98 territories and 50 countries.

MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS: The nominees were announced this week, but the most attractive ratings were the two new categories this year: house video clip and quarantine performance. Let’s hope anyone is a one-off business. Fans can vote on this link until August 23. Voting for the new PUSH artist category will remain active on the screen on August 30.

The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards will air Sunday, August 30 at 8:00 p.m. ET at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
