Chaturbate chief operating officer Shirley Lara, one of the industry’s most experienced platform leaders in adult content, has been interested in Bitcoin since 2018.

“We settle for 20 other cryptocurrencies for the purchase of tokens. Popular highs are bitcoin, ethereum and litecoin,” Lara said.

Experts, including Lara, estimate there “thousands and thousands” of cam girls working across platforms like OnlyFan and Chaturbate at any given time. That dwarfs the incumbent porn industry. Today, OnlyFans alone is estimated to have 60,000 content creator accounts and millions of registered viewers, despite some criticism from sex workers on Twitter.

Many major corporations in the sex industry, such as OnlyFans, Chaturbate and MindGeek, seem to belong to (relatively secret) men who are far from public artists. Lara, who joined Chaturbate in 2011, is one of the few examples of a woman who rose through the ranks to control without first creating a non-public porn star logo. His paintings are mostly technical and operational.

“I don’t think cryptography is a trend. I think it’s here to stay,” Lara said, noting the constant trend of using bitcoin among artists in Colombia and Romania. “They’ll use cryptocurrency as a way to jump on [Chaturbate] and start while they notice banking stuff.”

Meanwhile, its global operations allow artists like Honey Li in Europe to accumulate sats through Chaturbate. Li said a small portion of his income, in addition to everything he needed to pay his bills, was separated as bitcoin savings. For Lara, having this selection was for the platform’s cryptographic integrations.

“Did you ask if we had bitcoins? We don’t. We’re charging. But our stations do it (hodl), and I think it’s very smart,” Lara said.

With pornographic production blocked or canceled in centers like Miami, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, all sex is turning geography.

More and more artists are social networks to stream from their homes. Bitcoin can now offer another use case for platform artists compared to high-end escorts, for example. The sex industry is not a monolith.

While social pornography platforms are encouraging more conventional content creators to delve into adult themes, this extra divides the service in person and filmmakers.

One of those providers, Nina Mona, has been bitcoin in the sex industry for two years. For her, it focuses on Bitcoin’s privacy technology, which would not apply to users who already send data about their client’s wisdom to a central platform. It uses Bitcoin to pay bills and also to pay advertisers without sharing credit card details.

“I saw a wave of Records from OnlyFans when the paintings in person became less viable. I’ve been thinking about it, but I don’t think the return is worth the load of paints or the threat of exposure to me,” Mona said. “It is safer to restrict myself to a small organization of filtered consumers than to the percentage of compromising curtains with a wider and less invested audience. Each set of eyeballs is an additional threat.”

In the United States, Mona said the maximum consumer who booked sessions with Bitcoin resided in the Bay Area, Los Angeles or New York. Now that COVID-19 has triggered domestic migration, it is unclear how this will affect sex workers concentrated in urban centres. For some, this means more incredibly selective travel and bookings.

Artists and companions amselves can use their own wallets, even if they use platforms like OnlyFans or Chaturbate, especially for gifts and tributes from afar. In addition, Lara said the teledildonics trend, where Internet-connected sex toys can be set up to vibrate when their accounts get paid, creates new opportunities for consumers to incorporate into their fantasies.

“There is this total spectrum of teledildonics in popularity development,” she says. Li agreed with Lara, at least because there are toys for both sexes that can be used in sync.

“I use teledildic toys for work, necessarily every shift!” Li said. “They are activated for advice when I work … You can also sync vibrations with a Spotify account or a voice note sent through your partner.”

Consumer platforms like Chaturbate and its competitor FanCentro are already content with the cryptocurrency and have been working with it for years. Use is niche, but stable.

Many sex professionals say that a direct transaction and an appointment are more successful than a payment facilitated through a platform. Chaturbate, for example, pays almost part of the artist’s income. It provides a valuable service, however, consumers will have to be willing to pay in bitcoins if the artist needs their own independent site.

“If we move in this direction, it will take a long time to get to this stage, because of the other governance in the country,” Lara said.

A FanCentro user and cryptography owner named WesMan83 said he would be happy to pay a sex employee directly on cryptography if he liked it. Discover erotic service providers that adapt to it customer platforms such as Twitter and OnlyFans, as well as non-public recommendations from other customers and suppliers.

“I think it’s vital that other people perceive that sexual staff deserve to be paid for what they do and that there’s nothing they do with,” WesMan83 said. “They provide a very difficult entertainment service and paintings for what they create. I think it is vital that those of us who are proud to pay for assistance remove the stigma that surrounds us.”
