After news that Somi was moving into the next global step of her career by signing with Interscope Records, the K-pop star’s latest single “What You Waiting For” has dropped that centers her as the teen pop’s next relatable, slightly rambunctious singer-songwriter-producer.
The newly released song opens with a sophisticated production of synth-pop, bouncing through DIY electronics and a chorus of pop and power-while Somi tells a concerned lover “Baby, I’ve been waiting for you all this time!” In addition to presenting the 19-year-old extra as a promising publicist and songwriter (Somi credited as editor and songwriter on the catwalk), “What You Waiting For” also describes the star as revealing, self-aware and able to have a little ironic a laugh with her past.
