After winning primary orders in the United States and Australia, Indian multinational engineering, procurement and structure services provider (EPC) Sterling and Wilson Solar are launching a tender in new regions, adding Europe. Kannan Krishnan, Sun’s director of operations at S-W in India and the South Asian Regional Cooperation Association area, talks to pv mag about covid-19 having an effect on EPC’s solar business and the company’s expansion plans.

magazine pv: What effect has the Covid-19 pandemic had on the engineering, procurement and solar structure (EPC) sector?
Kannan Krishnan: The Covid-19 pandemic has spread and affected countries and industries around the world. This unprecedented crisis has also had an effect on the sun industry as a whole. The acquisition of the business didn’t suffer much.
More than four GW [of] projects were tendered, of which we gained 1 GW of capacity. However, the biggest challenge in terms of execution, due to the disruption of the source string. With the resumption [and] source of photovoltaic solar panels and other critical equipment, and the stabilization of the Covid scenario in some countries, the paintings have begun to accelerate the pace.
However, projects in countries such as Australia and Chile were not particularly affected and the paintings were developed at a slower pace. While in countries such as India, Jordan and Kenya, paintings have stopped in recent months. However, with the slow lifting of restrictions in those markets, structure activities have begun and if there is no resurgence of the virus, we are confident that projects will increase in the quarter of this year.
