Jim Gaffigan what happened and what he knew after his “diatribe on Twitter” about President Donald Trump last week.
In a long Facebook post on Sunday, the 54-year-old actor and comedian said he felt liberated and also threatened.
He said it’s “refreshing to let 4 years of frustration” boil over “Trump’s passionate friends, relatives, and colleagues,” but he hasn’t reacted.
While many agree with Gaffigan, others have not, and the comic said that the parties to the conflict have become known, adding a commentator whose symbol he shared with the message “Unsubsed: look over your shoulder for the rest of your life.” “Enjoy.”
“The symbol that is similar to this message is one of the many messages I’ve won that are almost threatening or frankly threatening,” Gaffigan said. “We all know that Trump is not a unifier, but that he and his friends incite hatred and violence. You can say that you are the candidate for law and order, but you need chaos and therefore you can say that you have some security.”
Gaffigan added that while he “expressed himself in favor of gay rights and Black Lives Matter on social media,” he has so far been considered apolitical.
“I learned early in my stand-up career that other people didn’t need to hear from me about politics. He knew that communicating about politics didn’t replace minds and alienated only a portion of the audience,” he said. “Then, if I might not possibly influence any voter, why communicate as I did? Honestly, I feel like I had no choice right now. I think Trump is ruining and (sic) would probably have already ruined my country.”
He continued: “To be transparent from the beginning, I don’t think an actor or comedian will tell them who to vote for even though the current president is necessarily an actor and a comedian. However, I would be lying if I didn’t say I was looking to replace my mind. Of course I am, I am deeply convinced of what is going on in our country.”
USA TODAY contacted Gaffigan’s representative for comments.
