SOMERVILLE, MA – A music club whose long term was already in doubt closed its doors in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. Thunder Road, which has been closed since March, closed its doors for smart this weekend, according to a post on the club’s Facebook page.
“The demanding situations that lie ahead are too wonderful to keep our doors open and remain a must-see music venue in the Boston area,” he reads.
Thunder Road opened in 2015, succeeding the Radio and Club Choices music clubs on the site.A new proposed progression on the site last fall, leaving the club’s long term in limbo.Plans included a five-story mixed-use construction with 12 apartments and a bar or place to eat on the first floor.
Thunder Road planned to remain open before closing, it would be a phase 4 component of reopening, which is not expected to begin until a coronavirus remedy or vaccine is available.
