Washington – Twitter sunday deleted a tweet shared through President Trump containing false data on coronavirus statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), violated its rules.
The tweet was originally posted via Twitter user “Mel Q,” a supporter of QAnon’s unfounded conspiracy theory, and retwed through Trump on Sunday. The message stated that the CDC had “discreetly updated Covid’s number” to show that a small fraction of all deaths (6%) coronavirus were “in fact” the result of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. . The vast majority of deaths, according to the broadcaster, were reportedly “other serious illnesses.”
The tweet was taken down, and a message from Twitter says it’s “no longer available because it violated the Twitter Rules.”
Another tweet from Jenna Ellis, senior legal adviser to the Trump campaign, who promoted the same misrepresentation in CDC statistics and retwented through Trump remains on the site.
Data deleted via Twitter appears to come from provisional coronavirus death counts to date on August 26 and lists underlying fitness situations among people who died through the virus. According to the CDC, “for 6% of deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned. For deaths with situations or reasons besides COVID-19, on average, there were 2.6 additional situations or reasons consistent with death.”
In the United States, the number of cases shown with coronavirus is close to 6 million, and more than 183,000 people have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
