Since the Prime Minister announced on 20 August when some indoor sports activities would likely take over, sports and fitness staff in the Outer Hebrides have made progress on the necessary elements before one of the local services can be safely reopened for customers. and the staff.

During the closure, the pools in the Outer Hebrides were kept through staff on site to ensure that once the proper level of the Scottish government roadmap was reached, we could put them back into service as temporarily as possible.

There are a number of technical issues that the Western Isles local authority must also adhere to before people can start to go back into the water safely.  It is also vitally important that lifeguards undertake re-induction training which includes pool based competency assessments before reopening is possible.

This can be done when the pools are at temperature and the appropriate microbiological effects are in place. These processes rely on external subcontractors for the provision of this specialized service and the board is working with them to move as far forward as possible.

The pools at Lionel and Shawbost will not be available until Phase 4 of the Scottish Government road map because of operational reasons relating to their position within school sites.

Each of the council’s facilities will be operating on limited capacity in line with Scottish Government and national guidance.

Customers will be informed as soon as possible with more information about express opening dates and booking terms.
