LONDON (Reuters) – Distribution of several British newspapers stopped on Saturday after Weather Replace activists blocked impressions used through News UK from Rupert Murdoch, editor of the Times and The Sun, prompting prime minister Boris Johnson’s conviction.
Extinction Rebellion said some 80 people had blocked roads leading to two printing presses, in Broxbourne in Hertfordshire, north-east London, and Knowsley, near Liverpool.Hertfordshire police said he had made 42 arrests and Merseyside 30 police.
Newsprinters, owned by Murdoch, also prints the Daily Mail, the Daily Telegraph and the Financial Times.Activists said they had taken steps to highlight what they see as the inability of newspapers to report on climate change as it should be.
But the action was condemned through Johnson.”A loose press is important to hold the government and other tough establishments accountable for our country’s long-term problems, adding the fight against climate change,” he said on Twitter.
“It is absolutely unacceptable to try to restrict the public to data in this way,” he tweeted.
A Spokeswoman for Newsprinters said the interruption meant that printing had to be transferred to the sites.
“We sincerely apologize to all readers of the Sun, Times, Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph and Financial Times who may not acquire their own newspaper this morning due to overdue deliveries,” she said.
“This attack on the entire loose press has impacted many officials on the functionality of their tasksArray.It’s a matter for the police and the Ministry of the Interior,” he added.
The Sun noted that Saturday’s edition contained an article through veteran naturalist and announcer David Attenborough.
The blocking component of more than a week of protests through Extinction Rebellion, which says an emergency reaction and a great departure from polluting industries and habit is needed to avoid a near climate cataclysm.
On Saturday, he also protested in central London, adding an outdoor “death” of Buckingham Palace, where protesters lay under white sheets to form corpses.
