Todd Lynn is a Canadian fashion designer who lives and works in London. Lynn studied at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design before gaining a position as an assistant to Roland Mouret, a position she held for seven years before launching her own logo in 2006. Known for her dimmed silhouette and andromine, Lynn has called herself a tailor tailor tailor tailored to world-class music, such as Bono, Mick Jagger, Marilyn Manson and PJ Harvey.
What time do you get up on Mondays? I get up every day between 7:30 and 8:00, get up and don’t get up at noon, stay awake until 3 a. m. and I finish at the same time. It’s like a team at 6 a. m.
What do you eat at breakfast to start the week? My day starts with the same . . . fresh fruit yogurt and granola.
What about caffeine? It is usually filtered with milk.
Is there anything I do on Mondays to avoid a bad week?Well, I’m taking meticulous notes on what to do during the week, so it’s a little in process.
What component of your new regimen will you review to stay intact in the future?Having a night or not running on weekends, I think it’s smart because in the afterlife I kept running until I was done. And now I’m like, “You know what? I’ve been running all day and I’m done. “So I’m thinking about the concept of having a little life and not being so work-related all the time.
What does the fashion industry look like right now? Fashion is not really a garment, no, clothes are what we wear. And the wonderful thing I would say is that clothes are what we wear and models are ideas, so it’s not really the same. Fashion will exist, we want it. We want it as we want art, how we want culture, how much we want music, as if we want everything we love around us to feel connected.
How many other projects do you juggle at once? Easily like 4 or 5 projects.
Do you think Covid-19 will lead to significant replenishment in the source chains and in the conversations about sustainable progression that have been positioning itself in the fashion frame in recent years?It’s smart to think about all this. In fact, I believe in this kind of Vivienne Westwood mantra: “Buy less and better. “Make it last. ” But I’ve believed in it. I’ve told other people it’s not a money consultation. Here’s what to buy. So, instead of buying two reasonable T-shirts on the main street, buy one for the same value as both, which is a little better. It’s not necessarily about buying luxury or buying expensive, it’s just about being careful what other people buy and see, I hope it resonates.
Would you ever work at home again and design a lopass?I’m a product person. I’m very interested in the product and I think I looked to make my own lopass because it was just an opportunity that was there, it has its own traps, but it’s great.
Do you read smart books or watch TV? As for books, I’ve been doing a lot of studies lately, I’ve found myself trapped in books about the art process. The Art of Thought through Graham Wallas, Michael Ondaatje’s Conversations and the Creative Process: Reflections on Brewster Ghiselin’s Invention in the Arts and Sciences. As for television, I’ve become obsessed with Watchmen. And a recent film I enjoyed was Calm With Horses; has a Blanck Mass soundtrack.
