British Sport President Katherine Grainger believes the COVID-19 pandemic may be the time to reopen the eternal worm that is permanent for the Olympics, Writes Tom Harle.
King George of Greece expressed his opinion in 1896, noting that “these Games will never be eliminated from their homeland” when the fashionable Olympics revived in Athens.
The founding father, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, in fact pretended to have misunderstood the monarch’s speech, later confirming his view that the Games act each time to promote peace and internationalism.
The debate resurfaced under the turbulent presidency of Lord Killanin’s IIC in the 1970s and a movement presented at the 1988 IIC Session through, he guessed, Greek President Konstantinos Karamanlis.
The question now arises every two years, however, Grainger says that ups and downs can make it highly unlikely that they will forget the reinvented Games and the call of the Greek capital.
“Long before this pandemic elletes, we face the challenge of countries eager to host these big global events,” Grainger told Ruth Davidson’s LBC program.
“We are all talking about how this pandemic will replace us in the long run and where we can gain advantages from the horrible things that have happened to people’s lives.
“How can we make sure that in some spaces we will be better for terrible experiences? One of the components will ask if it’s time to take a new look at how to minimize the position of tenders for the Olympic Games.
“We’ve already talked about Athens, the original house, being a permanent position, and all the money goes to that position in the same position every time. “
Last week, Tokyo 2020 organizers presented the 400 million-pound water centre, which is incongruous with the Tatsumi International Swimming Centre less than six hundred meters away.

The postponement of next year’s Games is expected to charge around 2 billion pounds, bringing overall prices to about 20 billion pounds.
Tokyo reportedly discovered savings of 217 million pounds, but the 2024 Paris creation committee took the lead and cut budgets to several more years.
A transitional aquatic site, planned to host swimming in Saint-Denis, has been abandoned in favor of an existing La Défense stadium design.
And a transitional volleyball stadium in The Bouget has been avoided in favor of the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, which housed a high-level national team and the International League of Nations. These and other adjustments can save 400 million pounds.
Changes in IIC and tender regulations in 2019 mean that several cities, regions and countries can now host the Games, starting with Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo sharing the 2026 Winter Olympics. Grainger likes the idea.
She said, “Should we have other places to host other parts of the competition, so that it is a central place for singles that takes on all the costs?
“There are massive prices related to this and there can be a permanent effect on the host country and host city.
“There are huge benefits that come with the Games, however, what you don’t need to bring is this circus from the Olympic and Paralympic Games, then pass and go through where the worst is or have suffered from it.
