Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Bob Woodward explained Thursday how Donald Trump can start a war with Iran before his term ends in January.
Woodward was interviewed through Lawrence O’Donnell at MSNBC on Monday, who pointed to a new Report by the New York Times.
President Trump asked senior advisers Thursday at an Oval Office assembly whether he had the characteristics to take action opposed to Iran’s main nuclear power in the coming weeks. , 4 existing and former U. S. officials said Monday, the newspaper reported.
“A number of high-level advisers discouraged the president from launching an army attack. Advisers, including Vice President Mike Pence; Secretary of State Mike Pompeo; Christopher C. Miller, the acting Secretary of Defense; and General Mark A. Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff: they warned that an attack on Iranian comforts could easily escalate to a broader confrontation in the final weeks of Trump’s presidency, Trump,” the Times reported.
O’Donnell asked Woodward about the mismanagement contemplating attacking Iran.
“Yes, it’s still possible,” Woodward replied, “and, again, I think that underscores the ordinary strength of the president, a president-in-office, even one who will soon leave office.
“And as we know, presidents can start wars for themselves. They’re commanders-in-chief, they can use force as they see fit,” he said. “Congress may withdraw the money, but it is unlikely, especially if it is a moderate operation of the army. Now, whether in Iran or globally it would be moderate, I don’t know. “
