After a few months of difficult negotiations, plans for the new Osbaldwick brewery site of 1. 5 million pounds will focus on the production of canned beers from york-based company, following a major investment in a new canning line in early 2020.
The expansion was financed through reinvestment of benefits, loans and grants, adding 200,000 euros from the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
Brew York has won from Phil Dibbs of Hawkmoor Associates Limited, Dave Catling of Customer Business Finance and Director of SME Growth Simon Middleton.
Brew chef Lee Grabham said: “Despite the tough times, Brew York is proud to expand to York and create new jobs in the area.
“With our expansion, we hope to strengthen our reputation as cutting-edge and exceptional beers by creating a brewing legacy that York City can be proud of. The administrators are especially grateful to Make It York, York City Council and LEP for their 200,000 euros without which the extension could not have been carried out.
The move includes investments in gadgets and technologies, adding a giant bloodless room, a silo and a grain mill, as well as an opposing osmosis machine, which removes all mineral content from the water to create a “virgin canvas” for brewing. . enable the production of new styles of beer, such as pilsner, that would not otherwise be imaginable with York’s main water supply.
The new 13,000-square-foot unit will space the main brewery, expanding the production capacity of 880,000 year-consistent pints at walmgate’s existing site to nearly four million pints consistent with the year, with the option of doubling it if additional increases are required.
Production of kegs and draft beers will continue at Walmgate, along with the operation of Beer Hall, the lounge and the shop. Pocklington’s Market Tap is also still a key component of the business.
