Meet Femi Oyeniran and Nicky Walker: Directors of Against All Oddsing British Music TV Station Channel U

Over the past five years, the percentage of dirt and rap sales and streams in the UK with UK-based artists has increased from 15. 5% to 42. 2%, with artists such as Stormzy and Dave on the most sensible charts. Construction has attracted the attention of the general public, the foundations of British dirt and rap, and what they are today was established decades ago with artists seeking artistic tactics to market and create a community, although their sound is not broadcast on radio Directors Femi Oyeniran and Nicky “Slimting” Walker present the debut of the British rap and dirt scene in their new film Against All Odds.

Oyeniran grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, and moved to the UK at the age of 10, catapulted into an absolutely new environment, focusing on his academics, where his education in Nigeria was emphasized, making the most of opportunities at school. Academically to obtain the highest productive qualifications, I developed business skills through the promotion of sweets to friends and developed a great interest in music through, first of all, being a musician. Although it never took off, an opportunity arose in a drama lesson where an instructor discussed that he was auditioning for a film and that the director, Noel Clarke, who went to school ten years ago, would come to school. Oyeniran signed up by chance, did well and was given a role in the film Kidulthood.

The film, which featured many things teenagers go through in central London, was filmed in 2004, just before Oyeniran was about to finish the London School of Economics to study law. He filmed the film and began his career. ” I felt blessed to be able to pursue my artistic passions while still being able to concentrate and continue my education,” he says. The film was critically acclaimed and marked an era in the UK. Towards the end of his studies, Oyeniran was selected for the sequel to Adulthood, which he also painted well. The good luck of both films led him to become a full-time actor, but “it turned out to be the most complicated year of my life,” he recalls. This led him to return to law school to complete his studies, but fortune came when he starred in Adam Dacon’s film Anuvahood. These reports led him to realize that if he sought to be a little fortunate in the industry, he had to take advantage of his business skills and paint his way by turning his hand towards achievement.

Walker grew up in Leyton, England. In his youth, his mother sent him to Sylvia Young Drama School on weekends, where he did a variety of artistic arts such as theatre, dance and oratory. Soon after, his ability shone as he won roles in several national commercials before appearing on the hit television screen Grange Hill. As he grew older, his attention began to move from acting to music. He discovered genres such as jungle, garage and drum and bass music, which shaped the early dirt and rap in the UK. I wanted to worry about the booming scene and the DJ. He went out with his friends in his domain and soon after gained notoriety by obtaining reservations at various parties and house events before proceeding to organize his own occasions as a teenager, with more than 2000 theatres throughout London. This era coincided with the emergence of pirate radio stations such as Rinse FM and Deja Vu, which featured Walker as he continued to build his network of musicians, creating a new community.

He honed his business skills through urgent vinyl records and promoating them with other artists who were coming to the time. “We ran out with record retailers on a sales and rollback basis, and then, when record retailers saw our mixtapes sell, they bought from the start,” he recalls. An opportunity presented itself when Walker was assigned a task at Jet Star Records, a leading distributor of reggae music, where he would help many well-known artists today press and distribute their music. It was here that Walker met Oyeniran through a mutual friend.

Oyeniran already knew that a career would be forged in the film industry and, while Walker was in the record industry, he learned that he had never lost his penchant for film when he saw Kidulthood. “I think that’s exactly what I was looking for, to make, to make movies that make up culture,” he says. The duo forged a date and their first film It’s A lot was a success, as was their timing and the third film Intent and Intent 2.

Against All Odds is the fourth film the duo has worked on and tells the rise of the British rap and dirt industry with the early days when the scene was very clandestine and not in the spotlight. The duo believe that “it is very vital that those stories will be told and we will give the other people who worked hard at first to make the industry what it is today. “The film is accompanied by a soundtrack with many well-known artists such as D Double E, Jammer and Maxwell D and is produced in collaboration with Motown Records UK. The film will be broadcast on Channel U, a channel where many British artists have made their first pause exhibitions highlighting the history of the musical genre.

Against All Odds will air on Friday, November 20 between 7 p. m. and 1 a. m, on Sky 373, Virgin 345 and Link Up TV.
