COLUMBIA, South Carolina (AP) – Aliyah Boston posted a career-high 28 problems and rebounds and South Carolina opened the Southeast Conference game with her 13th direct win over Florida, 75-59 on Thursday.
Boston, 6-5 inches sophomore, ruled the season when the Gamecocks (6-1) won their third consecutive loss since the only defeat of the season, the third in the state of North Carolina, 54-46 on December 3.
Zia Cooke had 26 problems with the Gamecocks.
South Carolina had not played in two weeks since its 103-41 home win over Temple on Dec. 17. COVID-19 problems.
But Florida (7-2) intervened – the Gators were originally scheduled to go to South Carolina on February 25 – to start the SEC game.
At first, the Gators seemed able to hold on to the Gamecocks and were down only 16-13 after Lavender Briggs scored two consecutive baskets in the quarter-minute. That’s when Boston and the Gamecocks went on to run 15-0 to take control.
Boston had nine problems in the heat and Cooke, the team’s top scorer this season, had four problems.
When Boston slid into a triple, the Gamecocks went up 31-13 and sailing.
Boston closed the part dominantly, knocking down the Florida basket with six seconds to the end, running into the area and avoiding flying a short jump.
In half-time he hit a double-double with 19 problems and 11 rebounds. Boston had his third double-double this season and the 16th of his career. He had four of South Carolina’s 10 blocks and the best of his career with three triples.
Florida cut a 22-point lead to 57-47 beat in the third quarter, but the Gamecocks opened the final era with a 6-1 lead to win their 20th consecutive victory over the SEC.
Briggs tied his career with 23 tracks to lead the Gators.
