LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) – Bryce Williams scored 15 points in his first outing for Oklahoma State, adding a borrowed shot and a breakaway dunk as the Cowboys prepared to beat No. 13 Texas Tech 82-77 on Saturday.
Issac Likeleke and Avery Anderson III had 17 problems for the Cowboys (7-2, 1-2), who had the longest after taking an 11-point lead at half time. They lost their first two convention games by 4 issues combined.
Mac McClung led Texas Tech (8-3, 1-2) with 21 points. He hit a 3-pointer to start overtime, but those are his last runs before he fouled with 1:06 left.
Oklahoma State lost the Big 12’s wiser scorer, Cade Cunningham, when the first-year goalie fouled in overtime, completing only one point after Tech hit a loose shot. Cunningham, who averaged 19. 1 problems consistent with the game, finished with thirteen problems on 3 of 12 shooting.
The Cowboys responded later, stretching the direct line when Keylan Boone hit a throwback basket and added a loose shot after being fouled. Williams continued his breakaway after a McClung touchdown pass.
The Cowboys were 45-34 ahead of Likekele’s jump shot with 16:14 remaining, the last time they led in double digits. Edwards hit a 3-pointer that broke the tie 15-4, with Texas Tech even getting 49 on a loose kick from Marcus Santos-Silva with 8:58 to play.
Then there were seven lead changes, with the Texas Tech forward Terrence Shannon Jr. having a rebound and a throwback after Kyler Edwards missed a 3 from the corner.
Likekele led for a layup with 43 seconds remaining in regulation time, but missed a loose shot that would have tied the game. Cunningham tied it at 68 with 27 seconds left, and Edwards called for a foul from far off the ball with the Red Raiders looking to identify a winning score.
The Cowboys took a 22-10 lead early in a stretch when Williams scored 3 3s and Likekele scored in a row before Edwards and McClung hit back-to-back 3s for Tech.
A 3 later through McClung shot the Red Raiders at 26-23. But Oklahoma State took a 3 from Cunningham in a 7-0 run to stretch its lead again.
