Husband and wife fall in love in adolescence one of Britain’s oldest married couples

A husband and wife who met as teenagers have one of Britain’s oldest married couples after celebrating their 80th wedding anniversary.

Ron Golightly, 100, met his beloved Beryl, 98, in Harrogate, at the age of 16, when one of his friends sitydled with the organization of friends of his then-future wife with which they crossed the street.

Beryl, then 14, turned around to see what was going on and fell in love at first glance with Ron’s curly hair and cheeky smile, and the couple has been inseparable ever since.

The couple married in North Yorkshire in 1941, while Ron, who served in the Brigade Guard, was on army leave in World War II.

“As soon as I saw him, I knew I was going to marry him,” Beryl said. “I was 14 and Ron 16, it was love at first sight.

“A few days later we talked and went for a walk, we were more or less a couple.
