Texas State’s first convention championship in 22 years after a 58-49 victory over Lousiana Monroe University on Friday.
For the time being in the back-to-back game, the Bobcats ran out of interim head coach Terrance “TJ” Johnson due to COVID-19 protocols, but that didn’t prevent a comforting moment after the game.
Johnson went to Strahan Arena after the victory and was greeted with enthusiasm and love by the entire team. Surely, the closed windows of his car, Johnson was able to celebrate the historic victory of the Sun Belt Conference with his team.

Led by senior striker Isiah Small with 17 points, seven rebounds, one hand and one black, put head coach Bennie Seltzer at the helm.
After the game, Seltzer shared on Johnson’s behalf.
“I just need to say how proud Coach Johnson is of this team,” Seltzer said. “Everything that has happened this year is unprecedented, to say the least. These young men never hesitated to say how hard they worked, how close they were and how hooked they were. It’s a great thrill to be with those kids, to exercise them. Every day they brought it. “
Texas state coach Danny Kaspar resigned in September after being investigated in college on accusations of racist comments to his athletes on several occasions.
“I don’t know where to start,” Johnson said in a team statement. “It was a year of roller coaster caught in a whirlwind. I thank Dr. Denise Trauth and Dr. Larry Teis for trusting me and my staff to run this organization. young men. These men have been through so many problems and I have never been so proud of a men’s organization and I find it so deserving. The culture has been completely exposed this season and I have to thank those players for trusting me and for sticking to the vision and plan for them and the show. It’s a wonderful day to be a Bobcat!”
Friday’s win is the show’s third regular season title. Texas State faces Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday night in San Marcos, Texas, to conclude the normal season.
