WILMINGTON, N. C. (WWAY) – Men’s and women’s football groups from across the country will travel to Cape Fear next month, and this week it was announced that the UNCW football complex will be one of the venues for the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
UNCW will be one of five schools state-wide to be used as the home of the first cycles.
In addition to UNCW, other campus sites include Campbell (Eakes Athletic Complex), East Carolina (ECU Soccer Stadium), UNC Greensboro (UNCG Soccer Stadium) and Wake Forest (W. Dennie Spry Soccer Stadium). Off-campus sites include Bryan Park (Greensboro), J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex (Wilson), Sportsplex (Matthews) and WakeMed Soccer Park (Cary).
The announcement comes after the adoption of a proposal for 48 women and 36 men to play in the state of North Carolina.
Selections for any of the championships will take place on April 19, with first-round matches on April 27. Tournaments will end with the NCAA College Cups at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
