Florida legislature approves bill to ban transgender athletes from women’s sports, bill targets Governor DeSantis for signature

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – The Florida legislature passed the “Women’s Sports Equity Act” on Wednesday night to prohibit transgender athletes from participating in women’s school and best school sports.

The bill has been a hot topic lately, as bill advocates argue that unfair competitive merit that biological men have in the game about biological women would tarnish women’s games through scholarships and school records.

Critics of the bill that other LGBTQ people deserve to be able to compete in the gender with which they identify and have called it discriminatory against other LGBTQ people.

“By the 11th hour of the 2021 legislative session, Florida lawmakers are still committed to passing this discriminatory bill,” said Gina Duncan, director of transgender equality at Equality Florida. “While listening to the voices of trans youth and their families, the extremists of the Legislative Assembly have made their project turn trans youth into pawns in their cultural war.

Two weeks ago, Florida House passed the “Women’s Equity Act” on April 14 after a 77-40 vote that will prohibit transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports in Florida’s best schools and school sports.

Bill HB 1475 will involve athletes on occasions based on the “biological sex” of the athlete, differently known as the sex of the individual assigned to the person’s date of birth.

“The Legislature considers it mandatory to require the designation of separate and gender-specific sports or sports groups for the fairness of women’s sporting opportunities,” Florida law says.

News of the eventual passage of the bill came out of the NCAA a few weeks ago, which threatened to eliminate the host sites of the state championship that prohibits transgender athletes from participating in women’s and women’s sports.

“In determining the venue for the championships, NCAA policy states that only places where hosts can dedicate themselves to providing a safe, healthy and non-discriminatory environment should be selected,” the NCAA said.

The message is a transparent reaction to the Florida House that is ready to adopt House Bill 1475.

Senator Rick Scott was dissatisfied with the NCAA’s risk, and called the risk of “an elitist psychopathic awakening. “

“The NCAA likes to risk Florida and other states. Well, here’s a risk to the NCAA: other Americans probably wouldn’t allow biological men to compete in women’s sports. That won’t happen,” Senator Rick Scott said.

“If you continue to threaten the public with your elitist chatter, the NCAA may not last much longer. Florida can’t be replaced, but you can be replaced. “

The NCAA has still commented on the passage of the bill.

Governor Ron DeSantis will send the bill soon.
