Facebook is turning a component of its Menlo Park, California headquarters into a public covid-19 vaccine starting Saturday, Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg said in a message Friday.
One spokesman said the company expected to vaccinate up to 10,000 more people in the first few weeks of its effort.
Facebook partners with Ravenswood Family Health Network to implement vaccines. The company also works in partnership with the cities of East Palo Alto and Menlo Park to provide transportation to and from on-campus vaccination appointments.
Sandberg said Facebook was also partnering with the California government and nine nonprofits for cellular immunization across the state, adding the Central Valley, Inland Empire, San Diego and south-central Los Angeles.
“As more and more COVID-19 vaccines are deployed across the country, we are nevertheless seeing flashes of hope, which can grow as we continue to progress,” Sandberg wrote.
Facebook’s resolution follows that of its social media counterpart Google. In January, the company, owned by Alphabet, presented its services to serve as Covid-19 vaccination sites as needed.
