Thousands of machines used to refine nuclear tissues were destroyed or broken in a key attack on Sunday, an Iranian official said.
Alireza Zakani, head of the study center of the Iranian parliament, said the incident had “eliminated” Iran’s ability to carry out the process.
The attack took place in a facility up to 50 meters underground, the official said.

Israel has not shown or denied its involvement, yet Israeli public radio has cited intelligence resources saying it is a Mossad cyber operation.
Iran says it will update affected centrifuges, machines used to refine or enrich the chemical detail of uranium for use in nuclear energy or nuclear bombs, with more complex ones.
He also announced Wednesday that it would particularly increase the quality of enrichment, from 20% to 60% purity. Enrichment at any point is prohibited under the terms of the 2015 nuclear agreement, and while 60% is particularly closer to 90%. necessary for a nuclear weapon, there is still a long way to go.
Meanwhile, Israeli and Arab media report that a shipment belonging to Israelis broke in an attack on the United Arab Emirates.
Unknown quoted through Israel’s Channel 12 accused Iran of hitting the Hyperion lightning. If confirmed, it would be the newest in a series of alleged attacks on Israeli and Iranian ships.
Iran had first stated that the centrifuges had been damaged, but gave no further details.
However, speaking on the public television channel Ofoq, Zakani said the pain is extensive.
“Is it general that they succeed in a hole in our electric formula and take steps to break and destroy thousands of centrifuges in an instant?” he asked.
“Shouldn’t we be sensitive to the incident that happened [on Sunday], getting rid of the maximum of our enrichment capabilities?”
The factor of Iranian centrifuges is particularly controversial: if enriched to a very high point, what Iran says yes, in machinery, uranium can be used in nuclear bombs. Iran asserts that its centrifuges only enrich uranium in degrees of purity that can be used for civilian purposes, such as nuclear fuel, agriculture or medicine.
Iran had activated more complex centrifuges, banned by the 2015 agreement, in Natanz, a day before the site hit the explosion.
U. S. intelligence officials told the New York Times that a giant explosion completely destroyed the independent internal force formula that fed the centrifuges of the underground facility and estimated that it would take at least nine months to resume enrichment there.
Separately, the former chief of iran’s Atomic Energy Organization revealed that an explosion that hit Natanz in July 2020 caused through explosives hidden inside a table.
Fereydun Abbasi-Davani told state television that the perpetrators “modified the explosive [in the paint] and sealed it, perhaps resin or welding steel” before effectively passing it in front of security personnel.
On Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, his country would “revenge” on Sunday’s attack, implicitly accusing Israel.
Iranian news agency Nour News, affiliated with the Supreme National Security Council, cited a source of the intelligence ministry saying that the “main perpetrator” was known and that an operation was underway to arrest him.
Israel recently intensified its warnings about Iran’s nuclear program as a component of efforts to revive the nuclear deal that defected through former U. S. President Donald Trump.
His successor, Joe Biden, has said he needs to return to the historic agreement, but Iran and the other five world powers that are still parties (China, France, Germany, Russia, and the United Kingdom) will have to find a way for Iran to lift U. S. sanctions and get Iran back to the agreed limits of its nuclear program.
Iran, which insists it does need nuclear weapons, has opposed sanctions re-established through the Trump administration by canceling key commitments under the agreement.
U. S. and Iranian officials are holding indirect talks in the Austrian capital, Vienna, to break the stalemate, with European officials acting as intermediaries.
