The Cardinals opted for Oviedo in their education of choice after Monday’s 5-2 defeat to the Nationals.
After pitching 4. 2 innings (65 pitches) in a long relay in Sunday’s loss to the Brewers, Oviedo was unavailable for the first game of the series opposed to Washington, and probably would not have been in a position to pitch for at least one day as such, St. Louis decided to trade Oviedo for a new relay arm for Kodi Whitley , who was called from the site of choice in a corresponding movement. Oviedo will return to the big club at the end of this season when the Cardinals want a starter or a long man.
