Regal Cinemas hopes to reopen many of its screens on Friday

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The relaxation of COVID restrictions has allowed more movie theaters to open and Regal Cinemas is expected to reopen many of its screens on Friday.

This is good news for film studios eager to, however, release major box office hits that have remained on the shelf for a year.

“What has been encouraging for Hollywood is the number of tickets sold internationally,” said Rebecca Rubin of Variety magazine.

She said the first primary check of the year, “Godzilla vs. Godzilla. Kong,” was awarded a smart start in China, where he raised $70 million in his first weekend.

Theaters and studios hope that American audiences will also be able to open their portfolio.

“Let people go back to the movies, ” said Rubin. ” When they feel safe, they’ll come back.
