MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The relaxation of COVID restrictions has allowed more movie theaters to open and Regal Cinemas is expected to reopen many of its screens on Friday.
This is good news for film studios eager to, however, release major box office hits that have remained on the shelf for a year.
“What has been encouraging for Hollywood is the number of tickets sold internationally,” said Rebecca Rubin of Variety magazine.
She said the first primary check of the year, “Godzilla vs. Godzilla. Kong,” was awarded a smart start in China, where he raised $70 million in his first weekend.
Theaters and studios hope that American audiences will also be able to open their portfolio.
“Let people go back to the movies, ” said Rubin. ” When they feel safe, they’ll come back.
Make the public feel like it’s a priority for theaters, many of which go the extra way to make sure shoppers see their COVID precautions. IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond discussed the factor with CBS News’ Margaret Brennan.
He said: “They have to communicate about cleanliness when you walk in and I think they want to keep handling exits and exits with safe tactics to make other people feel safe. “
If audiences show up this summer, the film industry can nevertheless have its happiness forever.
Despite reopening, several summer films such as “Black Widow” and “In the Heights” will still be released on streaming platforms.
