(Reuters) – The European fitness regulator on Tuesday approved more production and filling lines at Pfizer’s site in Puurs, Belgium, which manufactures its COVID-19 vaccine.
The advice is expected to “have a significant and rapid effect on the source of Comirnaty, the COVID-19 vaccine developed through BioNTech and Pfizer, in the European Union,” the European Medicines Agency https://www. ema. europe said. eu/en/news/additional-manufacturer-capacity-biontechpfizers-covid-19-vaccine.
In May, the EU signed a new contract to obtain 1,800 million doses of its vaccine by 2021-2023, to bolster the canopy, donations and resale of doses.
The bloc is on track to succeed in its aim to vaccinate 70% of its adult population during the summer, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen tweeted on May Nine.
The EU is confident it will have enough vaccines to vaccinate its entire eligible population by the end of September, beyond this initial target, according to a document presented to EU leaders on May 25.
It expects to get over a billion doses from 4 drug brands by then, Pfizer/BioNTech.
The EU on Friday approved Pfizer/BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for use in young people as young as 12, paving the way for wider implementation in the bloc.
