Prosecutors register opposition to Borderline co-owner Brian Hynes

The Ventura County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a crime against Brian Hynes, co-owner of the former Borderline Bar

On Wednesday, prosecutors filed a theft rate, Assistant District Attorney Marc Leventhal told the Star.

On the same day, an arrest warrant was issued for Hynes, he said. Ventura County Superior Court Judge Michele Castillo signed the order, according to court records.

Hynes accused of embezzling the budget given to him through the Rotary Club of Westlake Village for a festival, Leventhal said. The amount would have been at least $50,000.

Although a warrant was issued, prosecutors did not consider Hynes a risk to the public, Leventhal said, so law enforcement officers were not sent to arrest him. In fact, he said, Hynes’ attorney contacted the court on Friday to put the case on the calendar next week. Hynes will then appear to face charges, he said.
