There’s no better way to launch sports on the user than to bet sitting next to your favorite Washington Football Team (WFT) characters, adding Brian Mitchell, Fred Smoot or Rick “Doc” Walker. These are just a few of the local sports legends who helped launch user-in-the-user sports at several small businesses in the district on Friday, July 29 through a partnership with GambetDC, the district’s bookmaker.
Ben’s Next Door, Lou’s City Bar, Takoma Station Tavern and Dirty Water Sports Bar featured guest appearances through former NFL, NBA and NHL sports personalities; Brian Mitchell, Rick ‘Doc’ Walker, Fred Smoot, Santana Moss, Joe Jacothrough, Charles Mann, Ravin Caldwell, Ricky Irvins, Ken Jenkins and Craig Loughlin.
In a press release issued through GambetDC, which runs through the DC Lottery, the program targets local businesses in their efforts to recover from the pandemic. Local businesses that open their own sports betting with the help of GambetDC will gain advantages from a construction profit resulting from a 5% commission on all sports betting sales and a 1% commission on the collection of sports betting products.
“GambetDC is vital because the budget is used to help DC,” Brian Mitchell, a former WFT balloon carrier, who gave the impression at Takoma station in the northwest. “There are other people here who like to bet, and kiosks allow you to use, many other people don’t have credit cards to put cash into their accounts from their phones. And you can watch the game here on TV and see what you’re betting on.
Gary Clarke, former WFT wide receiver, said, “These are DC citizens. I don’t know much about the game, however, it’s a way to give back to the community. All that the citizens of the District of Columbia are, me. “
A visitor named Robert said he regularly travels to Delaware to place his bets, but as a friend of the takoma station owners, he said it’s now a way to do business.
District citizens are also winners of the program, according to lottery officials, as winnings from the GambetDC program return to DC through the City General Fund.
