Bestbet returns to its roots in St. County. Johns with plans to build a new gaming center near State Road 207 in St. Johns. Augustine.
The county issued the Jacksonville-based company a building permit on July 15 for a 40,673-square-foot poker room and simultaneous complex at 800 Marketplace Drive, right next to I-95 on the site of the former St. Flea Market. .

Bestbet began as a greyhound racetrack in the 1980s at its first location on Race Track Road in northern St. County. Johns. The site was launched about a decade ago, even before the Florida electorate approved the ban on greyhound racing through an amendment in 2018.

The new facility will be built on more than 8 acres off S. R. 207. The company’s other sites in Northeast Florida, in the Jacksonville community of Regency and Orange Park in Clay County, will offer poker and other card games; simultaneous in horse and greyhound racing; and jai alai.
The St. Johns facility would be smaller than the other two locations, with the Regency complex at 74,863 feet and the Orange Park facility at 100,146 feet.
In 2020, an initial proposal by bestbet to open a status quo in St. Johns has been challenged through the Daytona Beach Kennel Club, Inc. , for its proximity to St. Johns, but she didn’t hold her.
“We, the facility will be an attraction for both the fast domain and the southeast,” Shelton told The Record.
Shelton said he expected it would take about a year to build the new construction in St. Augustine.
“We are now in the design stages and are working to turn the design into a facility,” Shelton added.
The old Bestbet building, long regarded as a horror because of its dilapidated state, demolished several months ago in preparation for a large-scale, mixed-use progression called Grand Cypress, which San Juan approved in January.
The plan, submitted through jacksonville-based Gatlin Development Company, calls for a rezoning of assets in a progression of planned sets for 915 multifamily sets and 250,000 square feet of advertising and use.
The site is part of where the St. Flea Market. Augustine had operated in the past for many years. Most of the land was sold to Baptist Health, which paid $11. 9 million for about 23 acres to build a hospital complex. Work on the assignment is in progress.
