Council chiefs approved the progression plans, which come with the demolition of the existing gymnasium inside a pre-World War II hangar on the site of Freckleton Road.
A new double-height gymnasium will be built, with badminton courts, weight room, social area, conversion rooms, offices and department stores on site, which will provide a social and fitness center for inmates and ArrayFive multipurpose playgrounds with related fencing and lighting will also be built.
Plans for the new gymnasium were presented to Fylde’s board in June after we decided that the old one had deteriorated “beyond any moderate attempt at repair”.
A U. S. attorney on behalf of the Justice Department stated, “Unsurprisingly, these sheds suffer because of their age, have various structural elements of corroded metal, and deform in case of strong winds. . . the continued use of the remaining hangars is limited in the interest of fitness. “and protection and its use is not allowed in times of strong winds. Visual surveys and controls should take position after bad weather. Given the situation, the hangar buildings are becoming increasingly inadequate.
“The driving force of the proposed progression comes from the inadequacy of the existing gym, which is beyond any moderate attempt at repair and therefore not suitable for a renovation. This construction must be demolished as a component of this application; however, a gymnasium is an essential component of the prison.
