Independent store opens superstore in Eastbourne
Bonners opened in 1976 on Ivy Terrace and belonged to musician Peter Bonner, a resident of the Kings Country Club alongside prominent personalities such as Neil Diamond, Tom Jones and Dusty Springfield.
A momentary store opened on Grove Road in the 1980s and in 2005 moved to Langney Road.
Tony White grew up working in Bonners and in 2000 took over the company with his wife Myke Edwards. Since then, the duo has opened two more Bonners outlets in Surrey and Milton Keynes.
The latest is an 11,000-square-foot, two-story store at Faraday Close, near Morrisons Hampden Park, which has the largest variety of acoustic pianos, virtual pianos and keyboards in South London.
Tony said, “Our new Bonners are perfectly suited as they provide more space to demonstrate the beautiful tools we sell and for consumers to see, as well as new amenities such as a guitar and amp control booth, a video suite, a guitar workshop and expanded levels in top brands.
“I’ve noticed massive adjustments in the way our consumers shop, and this movement reflects developments in them.
“We stayed in the guitar shop and piano center, either with our experienced and helpful team, under one roof, but in a more open and relaxed environment, away from the hustle and bustle of the city center. “
Christina Ewbank, managing director of the Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce, said: “Bonners is one of Eastbourne’s wonderful stories of good fortune and I am very pleased that this well-established company has continued to thrive and adapt despite the demanding situations posed through Covid -19.
“I wish bonners’ team in their new home in Eastbourne. “
