Former President Barack Obama will celebrate his 60th birthday this weekend with a party on Martha’s Vineyard, with many Covid-19 protection protocols in place amid increased considerations about the Delta variant, a source close to the plans told CNN.
This weekend’s event, which will take place outdoors, will adhere to all public fitness protocols from the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. U. S. , the source said. There will be testing for visitors and a Covid safety coordinator on site.
Martha’s Vineyard, in Dukes County, has recently been designated through the CDC as a domain of the “moderate” Covid-19 network.
The CDC dressed in masks inside only for “high” and “substantial” transmission spaces, which includes nearly two-thirds of all U. S. counties. U. S.
Obama’s birthday is Wednesday, August 4. The Hill is the first to report on the former president’s big birthday party.
The Obamas had been on vacation on Martha’s Vineyard for almost each and every year of Obama’s presidency. The former first circle of relatives in 2019 reportedly bought a 29-acre asset on the island that was indexed for just $12 million.
Massachusetts has a higher vaccination rate. But that Fourth of July holiday, Provincetown, Massachusetts, also in Cape Town, was the site of a giant outbreak of groundbreaking Covid-19 cases among vaccinated people, leading the CDC to replace its recommendations for face masks.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki defended Obama’s on Monday, insisting at a news conference that the former president’s team had many security protocols in place for the event.
Noting that Obama “has been a strong advocate of vaccinating people,” Psaki, who had worked in his administration, said, “What the CDC has recommended is for really extensive indoor environments and upper spaces for Covid cases. This event. . . it is outdoors and in a moderate area.
Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday that “it’s better to mask yourself” in a giant organization where the prestige of others’ vaccines is not known.
“Maybe there are other immunocompromised people, who are vaccinated, they are not fully protected, the dynamic changes. There will be a need for common sense there,” he said.
In lieu of gifts for the former president, visitors are invited to donate to systems that help children and youth of color and their families in the United States, empower adolescent women around the world, and equip the next generation of youth network leaders, adding the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance , the Girls Opportunity Alliance or the Obama Foundation’s global leadership systems.
