In 2019 we reported that Lambeth Council and Transport for London were contemplating a primary progression in the centre of Waterloo roundabout and had contributed a quarter of a million pounds to the examination of the prospect of a high-rise building.
This week, Lambeth Council issued a report indicating it planned to spend an additional £150,000 to adjust progression plans.
According to the report: “The British Film Institute (BFI) has an enfiteutic lease (around 128 years expired) of the IMAX site, which houses the IMAX cinema. The Long-Term Lease Interest of the Undercrofts. the surrounding land that includes surface roads.
“In collaboration with TfL and BFI, the Board is leading the Waterloo Roundabout feasibility project, exploring the possibility of offering a primary mixed-use progression led by the on-site office. “
According to the council, the 2019 study “. . . he knew the possibility of a viable opportunity for land progression. Additional investment is now being sought to advance additional due diligence of the paints needed to provide a viable solution. “
Two years ago, the Twentieth Century Society placed IMAX cinema on its list of the 10 trendy buildings with the maximum demolition.
In addition, Lambeth Council has sought tenants for the underground area under Waterloo’s south bridge.
