German luxury carmaker Porsche will open its first open-air plant in Europe in Malaysia next year, officials said on Friday, seeking to meet strong demand in the Southeast Asian country.
Production in the northern state of Kedah will bring the latest meeting of express models to the local market, corporate and Malaysian officials said.
Malaysian Commerce Minister Azmin Ali said it is a “strategic resolution through Porsche that signifies its commitment to building a long-term presence in” Southeast Asia.

Albrecht Reimold, a member of the board of directors of the Volkswagen-owned brand, said the new plant, set up in collaboration with a local partner, is an “autonomous allocation of modest length and capacity. “

Currently, Malaysians who need to buy a Porsche have to pay the highest price lists for imported vehicles. Other foreign automakers have long operated meeting plants in the country to cater to the local market.
Malaysia has a developing average elegance and has noticed physically powerful expansion rates in recent years, although a severe coronavirus outbreak has hit the economy hard.
