DYERSVILLE, Iowa — Frank Thomas has his dream box.
The Hall of Fame ran a company that acquired a majority stake in Go the Distance Baseball’s stake in the All-Star Ballpark Heaven and the Field of Dreams movie site.
The company said Thursday that This is Heaven LLC, a venture of Thomas, 53, and genuine Chicago real estate developer Rick Heidner, bought Denise M’s stake in Go the Distance Baseball, Stillman Trust.
Thomas will be the executive director and former Chicago White Sox general manager Dan Evans will be the chief operating officer.
Stillman ran an organization that purchased the field, the location of the 1989 film “Field of Dreams,” and the adjacent farm of Lansing’s family circle in 2011. The approximately 190-acre site includes an active cornfield. She passed away in 2018.
Major League Baseball built a stadium adjacent to the film site, and the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox played the first primary league game there on Aug. 12. The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds are expected to play on Aug. 11.
Thomas, a five-time All-Star and two-time American League MVP nicknamed Big Hurt, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014.
