Oregon Ducks fans’ clothing ‘touching’ for Bend’s Cam McCormick and his family

“It’s about identifying someone by their character off the field, rather than just focusing on what they’ve done on the field. “

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Oregon Ducks football player Cam McCormick of Bend, injured, receives a fan touch and new regulations from the university.

“I can’t thank Jim Davis enough,” Cam said Thursday. “Doing something like this for me, I mean, says a lot about who he is as a user and his character. “

Cam McCormick has a tight sixth-year finish with Oregon.

After battling injuries, the Summit graduate suffered an Achilles tendon injury on Sept. 11 in opposition to Ohio State.

Jim Davis has been a Duck fan since he first came to Eugene in 1989.

“There is a player on the ground. “What is it?What is it?And when you listen to Cam McCormick, you’re interrupted,” Davis said.

Davis followed Cam’s adventure to a great extent and, as a result of this new injury, created a clothing site for him called #WeCamDoIt.

The garments show a drawing with a photo of his first shot and everything he said after the match.

“He says, ‘No matter what it is, I got the first down. ‘And you know, it’s like a punch in the stomach,” Davis said. “Look how much he’s been through adversity, his total adventure like a duck, and he’s going to say it. It’s amazing to me.

Davis contacted Cam’s mother, Debra McCormick, to share the idea.

“When Jim first called me, I asked him, ‘Do you care?Like, is it going to produce anything?” recalls Debra.

With the NCAA’s new name, image and likeness (NIL) regulations allowing school athletes to earn cash for the first time this year, clothing sales would likely gain advantages for Cam, who never thought it could also be anything he too could do.

“There are some things I have no idea about with NIL, like the odds I could potentially paint at. But I never imagined that something like that would be at my fingertips,” Cam said.

Debra McCormick said she believes top athletes who sign NIL deals are consistent starters, and players like Cam get lost in the mix.

“And I think the wonderful thing about this NIL deal is that it recognizes someone for their character off the court, rather than just focusing on what they’ve done on the court,” Debra said.

She said she won loads of orders in the first few hours.

“But it shows how big they also have a big heart. For them, doing something like that is so moving,” Debra said. “I don’t even have a strong enough word to describe how we feel about it. “

Cam says she still can’t, she’s getting so much support, but she hopes she can be a positive example for others.

“Any kind of me can be, I have to be like that,” Cam said.
