WEST CHESTER, PA – William McSwain, former U. S. attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and a prominent supporter of former President Donald Trump, has officially joined the number one Republican race for governor of Pennsylvania.
In his first run for public office, McSwain, a resident of Chester County, made it clear he was seeking the former president’s approval. In a July letter to President Trump, McSwain called Pennsylvania’s 2020 election procedure a “partisan embarrassment. “in the letter: “The governor, the Secretary of the Commonwealth and the Supreme Court of the partisan state set their own regulations and did not agate to the law. McSwain’s letter attacks his potential opponent, Palestinian Authority Attorney General Josh Shapiro, calling him “irresponsible” and blaming Shapiro at Shapiro’s feet “that many Pennsylvanians lack religion in our state’s election results. “
McSwain, 52, told his Republican colleagues in Pennsylvania he was well placed to defeat Democratic nominee Shapiro, who said he planned to run for governor.
“I will be the Republican gubernatorial candidate with the chance to win the November 2022 general election,” McSwain wrote. McSwain’s crusade showed McSwain’s authorship of the letter.
Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf’s term expires in 2022 and many Republicans are vying to update it, adding former U. S. Senate nominee Lou Barletta and County Commissioner Joe Gale.
McSwain resigned as a federal prosecutor after 3 years on January 22, following the election of Joe Biden, and has since returned to the practice of law.
After resigning as U. S. attorney, McSwain said, “I need to thank President Trump for appointing me as federal prosecutor, Senators Toomey and Casey for recommending me for the position, and Attorneys General Barr and Sessions for leading the Department of Justice. McSwain left the U. S. Attorney’s Office with two high-profile instances still pending: an ongoing bout opposed to the Safehouse injection site in Philadelphia that he testified in court; and allegations against the leaders of the city’s toughest union, FIOE Local 98, adding business manager John “Johnny Doc” Dougherty and union member and Philadelphia City Councilman Bobby Henon, NBC Philadelphia reported.
He’s with Trump’s attorney general, Bill Barr, who says he blocked McSwain from investigating voter fraud in the November 2020 election.
The Washington Post reported that Barr denied ordering McSwain to investigate the voter fraud allegations, and said McSwain claimed to have won Trump’s favor.
In a video of the crusade posted Monday on YouTube, McSwain said he would “fight to repair the freedoms that Tom Wolf took away from him. “He said: “Tom Wolf has stifled our economy, stifled entrepreneurship and paid other people more not to work. when I am governor. “
