Junior Wolf Ahead Jay Allen-Tover hits home from one of his five mates in Friday’s exhibition game against the New Mexico Highlands (Roberto E. Rosales/Albuquerque Journal) Here are some additional notes, quotes, tweets, stats and anything else that can just empty the old paperback after Friday’s 101-72 Lobos exhibition victory over Division II University of the New Mexico Highlands in the Fosse:
Before that, Jay Allen-Tovar, who came here from Salt Lake Community College and Valley Christian High School in San Jose, California, wasn’t used to betting in front of giant crowds.
Knowing that the level for him is much, much higher now that his first season with the Wolves is about to begin, he tweeted on Friday: “Everyone in the global will soon know my name. “

He then stunned the Pit crowd by hitting his first seven shots of Friday’s game, adding five volleys, and completing with 17 problems in 21 minutes of play.
I told Allen-Tovar that, as impressive as his evening was, I still didn’t know if an exhibition game opposite the New Mexico Highlands was going to be the platform for “everyone” to start noticing.
Quick to point out, “You’ll see more. “
Friday was a difficult game from the point of view that NMHU’s lack of length at the post led to a top-down game of 82 possessions that didn’t force the Wolves to show the return-to-basket skills on their part. like other groups, they can force them to do so.
With two big Lobo players 6-10 without Friday’s game at Valdir Manuel and Gethro Muscadin (Manuel’s absence may last a while, while Muscadin may be back for Wednesday’s normal season opener), UNM tried their two genuine fresh-year players, Sebastian Forsling and Birima Seck. Both were given false minutes opposite NMHU, but Allen-Tovar, a “4,” “knows he also wants to be informed to play a little more than “5. “
“Everything that’s going to bring advantages to the team,” Allen-Tovar said. “We’re in the big guys, so if I have to play the postArray. . . that’s what I’m going to do. “
Defensively, Allen-Tovar blocked 3 shots, but it was his five overturns that opened his eyes.
“I think Jay Allen did a very smart job betting on defense,” Wolves fresh-year coach Richard Pitino said. “Because of the way they played us, our escorts discovered it in lob dumps. He’s a talented player. Talento. Su skill point advanced a lot and came with a smart skill point.
In the middle of the moment, in a BLOB game (outside the boundaries of the baseline) with Taryn Todd entering the ball, Allen-Tovar again enraged the crowd with one of his five overturns. And thanks to the paintings of the camera of the photographer of the Journal Roberto. E. Rosales, we have this wonderful video of the work:

Apparently, I also didn’t have to post a video and write the game story in time after a game in the pit in more than six hundred days. It’s hard, though, here’s what fell out of the Pit Media Room after Friday night’s game:
What Jamal Mashburn Jr. , 6 feet 2 inches tall, did in the first half during a coast-to-coast counterattack, a preparation through a blocked shot by Jay Allen-Tovar, was almost difficult and actually deserved another look.
His ascent to the hoop turns out to be successful at the moment of march while he was already in the air, defying physics with the demonstration of a terrifying levitation.

Richard Pitino said he had never noticed Mashburn’s overturn before, which rose above the edge as it did on Friday.
Allen-Tovar, who can be noticed in the video above with a reaction as he dragged the game, gave his opinion on the game after the game.
“I had a clever angle on that dunk, yeah,” Allen-Tovar said. “I think his chest is on edge. He’s pretty crazy. I’ve never noticed anything like this before.
The Wolves attempted 30 3-point shots Friday night, hitting 8 for a 26. 7% score. It’s great, but the low shooting ages away for the Wolves have unfortunately been unusual in recent seasons.
The 30 attempts, however, are very rare.
Although he insisted his show would cause loopy triples when he accepted the job, Paul Weir’s career with the Wolves ended after two seasons of his groups giving up shooting outdoors.
Here is the number of games with 30 30 triples from Lobos in the more than 4 seasons:
So, do Lobo enthusiasts get used to seeing 30 triple attempts under Pitino?
He hasn’t hidden his preference for having shooters in each and every position, but 30 attempts probably wouldn’t be the norm (and Lobo enthusiasts hope that won’t be the case if the good luck rate is only 26. 7%).
Here’s how many games the Minnesota Gophers attempted 30 3-point shots in a game from their eight-year tenure there:

The Wolves led 25 at halftime (58-33).
And they opened up half the moment, extending that lead through some trouble in the first two minutes, but without first-year head coach Richard Pitino running all night for the first time.
How?
• A 3-point shot by Jaelen House with 19:09 on the clock followed 15 seconds later through an NMHU layup through Andre Adams as the Wolves were absolutely not back on the defensive.
• A Jay Allen-Tovar 18:33 overturn on the clock followed 8 seconds later through another Adams layup for NMHU, while the Wolves spent more time celebrating the overturn than returning to defense.
• Another three-pointer with 18:17 on the clock followed 16 seconds later through a third straight layup by Adams, back without the Wolves being fully defensive.
So, yes, the Wolves really beat the NMHU in this 1-minute, 8-second series, but giving up 3 layups in a short series thanks to less than intense effort didn’t please the coach.
“You never like it when your guys play the right way,” Pitino said. “But they want to be a little awake. I didn’t like it, I think the game made us play a little bit in a safe way. But yes,” we lifted our foot on the fuel at the beginning (halfway through the moment).

Although he’s set up for a very small 6-0/6-2/6-2 rear dominance, I expect KJJenkins to return to the starting lineup as soon as he’s the team’s most productive three-point shooter and has 3 point guards. with more point handling at House, Jenkins and Mashburn are offensively damaging.
Also, I expect Gethro Muscadin (6-10) or Valdir Manuel (6-10) to start Birima Seck when they return. Jay Allen-Tovar (6-9) will have great minutes, clearly, but if/when Saquan Singleton returns, I think he’ll be a starter in the “4. “That may mean Allen-Tovar’s minutes may be the player on the bench.
Here are some highlights of Friday’s schedule:
• The top lineup used Friday five starters from Jaelen House, Jamal Mashburn Jr. , Taryn Todd, Jay Allen-Tovar and Birima Seck.
This organization played 10 minutes, seconds and led NMHU 30-21 with 1. 4 consistent possession problems.
While there were some random teams of five that played only a minute or less and had consistent ownership issues in very small samples, the organization was more productive offensively in combination Friday for the Wolves and played in combination for an extended period. consistent with a period of time you might ask. It made me.
With 1,518 consistent problems with property in 5:27 on the field, Jeremiah Francis III, KJ Jenkins, Javonte Johnson, Birima Seck and Sebastian Forsling.
Participation announced in Friday’s exhibition between New Mexico Highlands Division II and UNM Lobos en el pozo: 7,182
They’re back! The most/least popular statistics that other people like so much.
These statistics show how a team’s score was replaced, definitively or negatively, while a fast player was on the field.
It’s not indicative in a game’s smaller pattern sizes of major problems, however, as the season progresses, plus/minus stats begin to paint a picture of the players and rosies who actually have the smart maximum fortune on the field. take the next step and see why this would possibly have been the case, yet it’s a smart starting point for the rest of us.
Here are the post-match comments Richard Pitino made to the media after Friday’s game.
“You look at the scores across the country: we play well, but there are those who lose those games. So you have to be focused. “

And here is the virtual edition of Friday’s statistics on the UNM website: UNM 101, NMHU 72 (numerical statistics)
In case you missed it, I wrote about freshman striker Birima Seck 6-11 in Friday’s paper, noting that he added much-needed confidence and weight, while being immersed in a much bigger role at the beginning of what was perhaps the original idea. due to the absence of greats such as Valdir Manuel and Gethro Muscadin.
On Friday night, the Wolves fresh-year student posted a team record of 23 minutes and 57 seconds in the box and collected 6 points (3-6 shots), 6 rebounds, 1 handout and 1 steal.
The next step for the Wolves is the opening of the normal season on Wednesday with Florida Atlantic arriving at the Pit for the 7 p. m complaint. The game will air on mountain west network (TheMW. com) and can be heard on the radio at 770 AM or 96. 3 FM.
