This year, Kino Lumière celebrates its tenth anniversary.

In 2011, it officially reopened on the site of the cineclub that was established there in 1976, under the supervision and ownership of the Slovak Film Institute (SFU), which called it Kino Lumière. The call is a nod to the origins of cinema and its pioneers.

Kino Lumière was created with the aim of creating a space for a quality film where filmmakers and their fans can meet, passionately discussing films, following the concept of a cinema club, according to Simona Nôtová of the Slovak Film Institute.

“It has a show of Slovak films and filmmakers,” he said.

Today, with this tradition, Kino Lumière focuses on Slovak films, European cinema and archival films, and offers normal film cycles, festivals or special highlights, also organizing meetings and debates.

Cinema has stood out through several awards, having won the Dramaturgy Film Journalists Award as the first cinema in Slovakia, as well as the European Film Award for Best Dramaturgy in 2014.

“The particularity of Lumière lies in its dramaturgy, which is addressed above all to a more not easy spectator, with the nature of a cinema club”, summarizes Nôtová.
