Jerusalem failed to follow through on the U. S. advance before getting rid of Hamas deputy leader Saleh al-Arouri in Beirut on Tuesday night, according to Israeli media reports.
Several other operatives of the Gaza-based terror group were killed in the precision drone strike, with the explosion rocking the Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold, according to Walla!.
The Israeli news site quoted two anonymous U. S. officials as saying Washington had not been warned of the attack. An Israeli official showed this to Walla!, saying that Biden’s leadership reported on the attack while it was underway.
Israel has not publicly claimed responsibility for the assassination. However, al-Arouri is one of the most sensible Hamas leaders on Israel’s target list after the terror group’s bloodbath on Oct. 7.
In a message quoted Tuesday by Saudi Arabia’s Al Arabiya television channel, Hamas described al-Arouri as the “architect” of the massacre.
For its part, Hamas, after the assassination, warned that “all aspects are open” in reaction to the attack, while Azat al-Rishek, a member of Hamas’ Political Bureau, claimed that “cowardly killings perpetrated through the Zionist profession of the Palestinian people. “nor undermine the continuation of their courageous resistance. “
The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, affiliated with Hezbollah, wrote that “hours before Hezbollah marked the anniversary of the assassination of former Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani, Israel, in violation of the norms of confrontation with Lebanon, crossed the red line established through the Lebanese Armed Forces. Several months ago, Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah assassinated Saleh al-Arouri in an airstrike in Beirut’s Dahiya community.
Despite reports of a postponement, Nasrallah is scheduled to deliver a speech at 6 p. m. On Wednesday.
Iranian members of Hezbollah also commented on the assassination, with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian tweeting that “such a cowardly terrorist operation proves that the Zionist regime has achieved none of its goals after weeks of war crimes, genocide and destruction in Gaza. “and the West Bank of Palestine, despite directives from the White House. The evil activities of the regime’s terrorist apparatus in other countries constitute a genuine risk to peace and security and a serious alarm to the security of all countries in the region.
