On Monday, a bulldozer began destroying the front façade of a 107,148-square-foot building on Silver Lane Plaza as city officials celebrated a milestone in the long effort to update the dirty mall with new developments.
City officials had forced the previous owner to renovate the decaying three-building plaza before reclaiming the 22-acre property, located at 818 Silver Lane, for $4. 6 million in an eminent ownership process early last year.
Now, contractor Manafort Brothers is demolishing the central building in a roughly $1. 2 million contract. These paintings are expected to be completed by mid-May. The city is running to evict four tenants from the two remaining buildings, a 31,080-square-foot advertising building erected in 1965 and an 18,562-square-foot advertising building completed in 1963.
East Hartford Mayor Connor Martin said he hopes those buildings will be demolished and can be passed on to a developer by the end of the year.
“It’s indeed a monumental moment for East Hartford to finally see progress on this project,” Martin said.
The city is looking for great strides in this area. It has recently granted a temporary occupancy certificate for 1. 2 million and 1. 3 million square metres of logistics warehouses located in the vicinity of the Rentschler camp. Martin hopes to close a deal that will lead to the structure of an apartment complex of approximately 400 sets on the former site of the 25-acre Showcase Cinemas, Silver Lane Plaza.
With all this activity: “2024 is the year to shine in East Hartford,” Martin said. “”
The city is working with a progression organization to refine plans for the regression of the blank slate that will be created with the demolition of Silver Lane Plaza. The partnership includes: Grossman Development Group, based in Framingham, Massachusetts, Daniel M. Zelson, principal of Charter Realty and Jason C. Hess, a veteran real estate attorney with New York-based mixed-use developer Leyland Alliance.
The organization was the only one to respond to an announcement from the city. Their initial reaction included 3 shows with street-facing business combinations versus up to 93 small, tight masses designed for factory-built modular homes.
Martin said Wednesday that the progression team is still very interested in the site. Martin said he expects further business and retail progression. It also seeks reassurance about the quality of the homes that will be built.
One Silver Lane Plaza tenant, who attended Monday’s action, had mixed feelings.
“I’m pleased that it’s being remodeled,” Lim told the Hartford Business Journal. “He wants it. But they may have treated him better. “
