The United States on Wednesday imposed sanctions on online outlet Gaza Now and its founder Mustafa Ayash for allegedly supporting Hamas.
The U. S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control said that after Hamas’ attack on Israel on Oct. 7, the online entity introduced a fundraising crusade within the militant organization.
Gaza’s Arabic channel Now has more than 300,000 followers on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, and followers on the encrypted chat platform Telegram.
The sanctions come with executives at Al-Qureshi and Aakhirah Ltd. , as well as their director Aozma Sultana, who are said to have joined fundraising efforts along Gaza Now.
Sanctions imposed in collaboration with the UK’s Office of Foreign Sanctions Implementation.
Deputy Treasury Secretary Brian Nelson said in a statement that the United States and its partners “will continue to leverage our equipment to disrupt Hamas’ ability to facilitate additional attacks. “
A representative for Gaza Now and Ayash were not immediately available for comment. The sanctions block access to U. S. assets and bank accounts and prevent designated Americans from doing business with Americans.
