The stopover comes a week after the Francis Scott Key Bridge smashed through a cargo ship.

President Joe Biden will travel to Baltimore on Friday to stop at the site of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced Monday that Biden would meet with state and local officials on the ground. He said more major points would be released about how the president would assess the damage in the coming days.

This comes after Biden said last week that he would make a stopover at the disaster site. The president also promised that the federal government would provide all the resources Baltimore needed to rebuild the bridge after a container shipment led to its destruction. Six other people are presumed dead after the crash.

“The president will see for himself what happened,” Jean-Pierre said. “Look for the answer. “
