A funeral home that is being investigated for considerations about its “storage and control processes” appears to have been vandalized.
Legacy Independent Funeral Directors, owner of three venues that have been controlled by police, was reportedly targeted after leaving several families destitute in the wake of the scandal. Photos posted online show its Anlathrough Road branch in Hull closed, with its baskets demolished and now on the ground.
It comes after the Beverly branch shed its branding from its storefront, revealing the old posters of the former independent Time store.
Humberside Police said that between the morning of Friday, March 8 and the morning of Saturday, March 9, a total of 35 bodies were removed from the scene. The administrators currently have two branches in Hull and one site in Beverley. The investigation began last Wednesday (March 6), when Humberside Police won a report expressing considerations about garage and control processes similar to caring for the deceased at funeral homes.
Subsequently, a 46-year-old man and a 23-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of preventing a legal and dignified burial, fraud through false statements and fraud through abuse of power. They have since been released on bail by the police.
On Tuesday, Humberside Deputy Police Chief Dave Marshall said: “I would like to express my sincerest and most intimate condolences to the families of those affected and anyone else affected through the reports relating to Legacy Independent Funeral Directors founded in Hull and East. We continue to stand with concerned families at this incredibly complicated and distressing time. In fact, this is a horrific incident, and understandably, they are disappointed and have a lot of unanswered questions.
“I need to assure them, as well as the general public, that we are doing everything in our power to give them that reassurance and the answers to the questions they desperately need. I would also like to take this opportunity to warmly thank everyone who called with information, as well as our groups who continue to paint 24 hours a day following the lines of inquiry generated.
“This is an incredibly complex and sensitive investigation that puts heartbroken families at the center. We are committed to ensuring that families remain at the center of everything we do. “
