La leak revealed on Tuesday on an online hacking forum, poses a serious risk to the integrity of El Salvador’s official Bitcoin wallet.

The cybercriminals involved in this breach had already made headlines by leaking private data belonging to approximately 5. 1 million Salvadorans. This earlier attack appears to be a punitive measure against the Salvadoran government, which has refused to dialogue with the hackers. Why cybercriminals prefer to talk to government officials remains a mystery.

The recent publication by CyberIntelligenceSV explains the nature of the leaked information, as the organization said on Tuesday:

The recent breaches are a testament to the persistent vulnerabilities in the national crypto program, especially as the price of some cryptocurrencies is at its highest point in two years. However, on April 24, 2024, Chivo Wallet published a report addressing recent considerations about a security breach. In X. La company emphasizes that user data remains secure and that there have been no breaches within its formula.
