The agreement, outlined in a contract announcement through the U. S. Department of Defense, is a major deal. The U. S. Designed to be carried by the Lockheed Martin F-35A, the JSM equipped with an infrared imaging finder is suitable for anti-ship, anti-surface and ground attack missions. The high-velocity subsonic weapon weighs 416 kg (917 lb) and has a diversity of more than 150 nm (277 km), its manufacturer says.

“We are very pleased that the U. S. Air Force is not working with the U. S. Air Force. “”The U. S. Army, as the world’s largest F-35A operator, has to acquire JSM,” Kongsberg said. “Deliveries will begin in 2026,” the company confirms, adding that the total “creates formidable strike capacity. “

“The selection of the JSM through the USAF and the Royal Norwegian Air Force also fully supports NATO’s vision of interchangeability of aircraft between allied countries,” said Eirik Lie, president of Kongsberg Defence

Japan has already ordered the missile to be integrated into its F-35s.
