Trump will meet face-to-face with the most sensible Republican leader for the first time in just four years

Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, will meet behind closed doors Thursday morning with House Republicans and Senate Republicans on Thursday afternoon.

And McConnell reiterated Wednesday that “I’ll be at the assembly tomorrow. “

Trump’s immense grip on the GOP remains a companion as his supported candidates lead the Republican primary.

McConnell and Trump haven’t spoken since December 2020, when their appointments were frozen after President Biden’s election victory over then-President Trump.

McConnell officially identified Biden’s victory in the presidential election after the former vice president showed the winner through the Electoral College on Dec. 15, 2020.

A few weeks later, McConnell said Trump was “morally responsible” for the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U. S. Capitol by Trump supporters who sought to overturn congressional certification of Biden’s victory in the White House.

In the years since, Trump has lashed out at McConnell in social media posts, calling him, among other things, an “absolute loser. “And the former president also made disparaging comments about McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, who was Trump’s transportation secretary.

But let’s temporarily go back to that year and McConnell endorsed Trump after the former president clinched the Republican nomination for 2024 in early March.

“It’s very clear that former President Trump has earned the requirement of the Republican electorate to be our nominee for president of the United States,” McConnell said at the time. “It’s no surprise that as a candidate, I have myArray. “

On Wednesday, McConnell pressed his weekly press conference to the Senate leadership: “I said 3 years ago, right after the attack on the Capitol, that I would help our candidate, no matter who it was, by adding him. “He won the nomination of the electorate from all over the country.
