POLK COUNTY, TENNESSEE – UPDATE:
Some Polk County citizens voiced opposition at Thursday night’s commission meeting to the proposal to move the Boys and Girls Club.
The 16 acres proposed for the Boys and Girls Club are adjacent to Copperhill Industries, which has transported biosolids there in the past.
A neighbor who worked on the asset believes that young people will not be near this site.
Thursday’s assembly included conversations between commissioners and citizens of the Copper Basin region.
Commissioner Samantha Trantham spoke on behalf of the affected citizens, stating that citizens have been able to. . .
However, Polk County Executive Robby Hatcher told us earlier Thursday that the acres of land had never been used for biosolids.
But Trantham argued that there were other considerations to consider besides those similar to biosolids.
Derek Kinsey, a member of the Boys and Girls Club, spoke to those interested.
EARLIER:
Polk County recently won a grant to relocate its local boys and women’s club.
But some members of the network consider the proposed location of the facility, which would be right next to a biosolids landfill.
Polk County commissioners are drawing up a plan that would move new construction away from Ocoee Street.
But this land is next to the Copperhill Industries site.
We have written several articles about Copperhill Industries, which used biosolids to return plants to an old mine.
The use of biosolids is now suspended, following several protests.
Copperhill Industries brought in biosolids to bring plants back to the mining lands.
But the smell has led neighbors to demonstrate against the project.
Now, with the proposed 16-acre site for the Boys and Girls Club next to Copperhill Industries, citizens are involved in safety.
However, Polk County Superintendent Robby Hatcher says it has never been used for biosolids.
Hurder has lived there for 11 years and spent four years working at the Boys and Girls Club of OcoeeArray.
Their considerations arise from this report through the TDEC. . .
The report reports violations of the pH grades of biosolids at Copperhill. These were tested in November and December 2023.
At the time, the company that transported the biosolids, Danali Water Solutions, told us about the program. . .
We contacted TDEC to find out the current status. A spokesperson told us
A county commissioner, Samantha Trantham, needs to replace the Boys and Girls Club’s proposal with a solution at Thursday night’s meeting. She says. . .
We will have a commission meeting Thursday night in Polk County.
