Construction of the sports center as planned

LEWISTOWN – The Mifflin County High School’s new multi-sports complex looks like a pile of dirt and dust right now.

But Vance Varner can envision the Mifflin County Huskies entering the field for the first time as the $18. 5 million project continues.

“It’s exciting to walk beyond the structural sites of the multi-sport stadium assignment and see progress continue week after week,” said Varner, superintendent of the Mifflin County School District.

“I am confident in what this allocation will mean for all existing and long-term scholars in the district, Mifflin County residents, and local industry and businesses. “

What Varner alluded to are facilities that student-athletes can be proud to compete in, replacing replaced and dilapidated stadiums like the venerable Mitchell Field. Husky athletes will also gain advantages from the new playing fields and grass surfaces that many conflicting parties have at their disposal.

“The site paintings are going well,” said Thomas White Jr. , the district’s director of buildings and grounds. “The paintings in the public facilities will be finished in the coming weeks. White said the paintings include stormwater, sewer and water.

With preparation for grantmaking, it’s imperative that the project’s structural paint stays on track, which White says is the case for the most part.

“The paintings on the ground and on the floor are being placed as planned,” he explained. “The checkout stations have been delayed for a few weeks due to early rains. “

In the next 30 days the complex will begin to take shape with the start of the works.

“Field A (located across from the upper school in the main stadium) will be raised above floor level in the coming weeks and field B (in the secondary field) will be opened,” White added. “The structure of the stands and sports lighting will begin in mid-July. “

The allocation is also kept within budget.
